Sigma Derby

Sigma Derby History

Sigma Derby was first introduced in nineteen eighty five by a Japanese manufacturer called Sigma Games Inc. While it was very popular upon its launch, over the years it has seen a decline in popularity and the number of games that are still available to players today. Both of the games that are still available to players today are located in Las Vegas.

There used to be a machine located at the New Frontier Hotel and Casino, but this gambling establishment closed its doors on July 16 of 2007. That casino has been open since October 30 of 1942. The two establishments that still offer this game are the MGM Grand and D Las Vegas. The MGM Grand opened on December 18 of 1993 and has over 15,000 square metres of gaming space. The D Las Vegas was opened in 1980 and features 3,900 square metres of gaming space.

How to Play Sigma Derby

This game is quite straight forward to play, and it is very easy for new players to get involved quite quickly. The first step in playing this game is for the player to deposit their coins and then push the bet button. The second step in playing this game is for the player to pick their pair of horses. This is the only bet that is available to this game.

These horses must finish number one and number two. It does not matter in which order the pair of horses finishes first and second place, but they must finish first and second place in order for the player to win. The player is able to bet one to twenty per horse combination and any variety of horse combination can be bet on by the player. The player can win different amounts depending on how much they wager in the first place, but any wins that are over 500 coins have to be paid by the gaming attendant. In order to get their winnings, players must push the collect button before they leave the table.

Future of Sigma Derby

While there currently aren’t any plans to add additional and original Sigma Derby games to Las Vegas, there are two racing games that are quite similar to Sigma that have recently been announced. At the G2E Conference in Las Vegas in 2015, a prototype game that was called “Classic Derby” was displayed. This game was manufactured by VSR industries and had similar features to the original.

The players can see a large horse track with green fields, a white fence and a light tan track. The horse’s riders are in different coloured shirts so it’s easy to tell them apart. The betting portion of the game is controlled digitally by a screen that the players sit at. They then select their bets before the race begins by pushing large, white buttons.

The second game showed at the G2E conference was called Royal Derby. This game is manufactured by a Slovenian game company called Alfastreet. It also had features that were very similar to the original horse racing game.

The Plot of Rain Man

Rain Man starts off with Charlie Babbit, a car salesman, attempting to import four exotic cars into the United States. The cars are held in customs, however, as they fail their emissions regulations. Soon after, Charlie learns that his estranged father has passed away, and left Charlie a rose bush as well as a Buick Convertible.

The bulk of the estate, which is worth millions, is left to an unknown trustee. Charlie quickly learns that this trustee is a man living in a mental institution, which turns out to be his older brother Raymond. Raymond is an autistic savant, with incredible mental recall, as well as a human calculator. Raymond, because of his extreme autism, battles to exhibit any emotion, and adheres to a strict regime every day. Charlie decides to abduct Raymond from the mental institution, hoping to find a way to gain the estate. Learning this, Charlie’s girlfriend, Susanna, leaves Charlie.

Charlie then decides to take Raymond to Los Angeles, but due to Raymond’s fear of flying, the pair decide rather to begin a road trip across the country. Along the way, Charlie learns more about his brother, including their mutual love of The Beatles, as well as the fact that Raymond did, in fact, live with the family at one point.

Charlie learns that the cars he had imported have been seized, and is now in $80000 worth of debt. He takes Raymond to Las Vegas, hoping to use Raymond’s skill with numbers to win the money he needs to pay off his debt. The plan works, and Charlie makes enough to completely cover his debt. During this time, Charlie and Susanna get back together.

After a brief period in court, the brothers reconcile, and Charlie decides not to take Raymond back to Los Angeles with him, instead dropping him off at a train station so Raymond can move back to the mental institution. Before Charlie leaves back home, he promises Raymond that he will be back to visit him in two weeks.

Rain Man Verdict

Rain Man remains a classic to this day, with a heartfelt story and powerful message, and is definitely worth a watch.

Provably fair

Provably Fair Explained

When a person loses at a casino game consistently, it is not long before the thought crosses their mind as to how fair the game being played really is. Of course, the very definition of fair can be called into question where casino games are involved, given that a house edge exists, but one must consider fair by the legal standards enforced on casinos. In terms of real world casinos, whether a game is fair or not can easily be determined by simply confirming that the dealer is legit, and that the cards or dice being used are regulation.

In terms of cards, a full deck should obviously always be used, with no cards missing, and all the same shape and size. The same is true for dice, and certain specialised tools are used to verify that dice are the size and shape they should be. Gambling, however, is changing at a rapid pace, and with digital slot machines and online gambling taking over the world; serious questions are raised as to how a gambler can be sure that the software is fair and abiding by the rules.

Provably Fair

Provably fair is a term most used by online casinos. It refers to an algorithm and random number generator that makes online gambling completely fair, based on the standards set by gambling rules and regulations. That is to say, the software recreates real world gambling statistics so that the match the odds and percentages of the real world version of that game. The term provably fair, therefore, expresses that the algorithm may be check at any time, for any virtual hand of cards played, and it can be verified that the hand was fair. This software is also what is known as open source, meaning that it is not owned by any one person or organisation, and may be analysed at the leisure of anyone who wishes it.

Of course, no problems have ever arisen with this software upon being analysed by multiple groups and individuals. All online casinos give a serial number to every single transaction that happens online, without fail. This number can generally be seen at the top or bottom of the software play area. If disputes arise, this number should be noted and given to that website’s customer support centre. Some online casinos will even have a provably fair button that may be clicked to analyse a gambling transaction.

The only real drawback with this system is the same as its biggest advantage; the software is open source. This means that hackers, cheaters, and unscrupulous individuals have full access, and may attempt to find ways to break the code and take advantage. There are, of course, highly advanced and sophisticated measures put into place to avoid this ever happening, and to date there is not a single case of an online casino ever being cracked in any way. The protection systems are also updated regularly, meaning that even if a way to cheat is found, by the time it works the protection systems will have changed. It is, in fact, currently impossible to cheat at online gambling, whereas the same cannot be said for real world casinos.

Groom Porter

What Is A Groom Porter?

In days of old a groom porter oversaw the lodgings and furnishings of the royal high court. He also saw to it that, should dice or cards be played in the royal court, everyone playing had what they needed. This included tables, chairs, the dice themselves, and decks of cards. Later, when disputes arose during the gambling in the high court, as will generally happen wherever people gamble, the porter was given the duty of settling the disputes. Being seen as an independent body, the man was allowed to decide a final winner, and settle the matter once and for all. An amusing fact is that gambling was only permitted in the royal high court during certain periods of time, and that the king himself would sometimes like to take part.

Since it was frowned upon for the king the gamble, the groom porter would announce to the court that the king was out, meaning that he was not in the court. Those involved would obligingly turn a blind eye to the king playing cards or dice. When the king was done gambling, the porter would announce his majesty is at home, at which point everyone would forget they had seen the king gambling.

Evolution Of The Job

As time went by the job became more and more focused around the gambling, and less around the actual furniture, which had been the original job. The name groom porter soon became associated with dice and cards, and it was not long until the job soon lost any association to chairs altogether. Eventually the porter was overseeing gambling in other areas of London, being given the duty of dealing with licensing in gambling establishments, and generally seeing that the establishment ran according to regulations. Gambling was, of course, eventually banned from the high court altogether, and the groom porter office removed from the premises entirely. Other gambling areas of London and the regulating of these places, however, still remained the duty of the porter.

Modern Times

Over time the term has evolved and changed, and today can more or less said to be any owner of a gambling hall or casino. Similar duties still apply, with the job requiring that all aspects of the establishment be overseen. Furnishings will still be organised, as well as dice, cards, and whatever else might be needed which is never the case with your favourite Canadian online slots. Today, of course, the job will likely be designated to others, who will perform the duties on behalf of the owner.

It is interesting to note that it is still the tradition in many casinos that the groom porter personally be involved in resolving any disputes that may arise, should a gambler in the casino have problems with the proceedings. This is generally considered a courtesy, however, and most owners will only have a real interest if it is a high stakes game that threatens the reputation of the casino. This job in most cases falls to a manager, or a dedicated security and complaints office.

Gambling Ship was set and filmed during 1933 in Hollywood, California, and was created during an era when sound was first being introduced into Hollywood movies. Some may know Gambling Ship alternatively as Casino del mar.

Gambling Ship Cast and Crew

Gambling ship was adapted from the written works of Claude Binyon, with the screenplay being created by Max Marcin. Max Marcel also directed the film, along with Louis J. Gasnier.

Gambling Ship Plot

Having lived his life as a notorious, gambling boss, Ace Corbin decides to leave it all behind and search for a different purpose in life. He travels across the country to find a new place to settle, planning to change his name when he arrives and leave his old life behind him. During his time on the train, Ace meets a woman named Eleanor Le Velle, and the two quickly fall in love, but the two do not wish to share their pasts with each other.

Eleanor herself has a past of sordid affairs. Things go awry as Ace’s old life catches up with him, and Eleanor own history begins to create trouble. Things continue to intensify as their pasts clash, creating new problems for the pair. Eventually, both Ace and Eleanor manage to move forward, and start a new life together.

Review of Gambling Ship

Gambling Ship has received mixed to positive reviews, with some criticising the uninspired story, as well as a long, drawn out plot. Many, however, praised the directing of the film, as well as the performances given by the cast, most notably the two roles lead by Cary Grant and Benita Hume. Gambling Ship also received praise for the comedic relief provided by actors Roscoe Karns and Charles Williams.

Gambling Ship Verdict

While not a masterpiece by any right, Gambling Ship still provides an enjoyable experience that still holds up even in modern times. Strong performances and intelligent direction combined with a reasonably tight script makes Gambling Ship one of the better films produced by Paramount Pictures during a young Hollywood.

Finder’s Fee

Finder’s Fee

Released in 2001 and directed by Jeff Probst, Finder’s Fee is a North American film centred on a man who finds a wallet containing a lottery ticket worth six million dollars, and the consequences of his decisions regarding the ticket.

The Plot of Finder’s Fee

The story of Finder’s Fee revolves around a man named named Tepper, played by Erik Palladino. Tepper lives in a small village in Greenwich, and spends his days assisting his elderly neighbour Mrs. Darmsetter, as well as going out to play poker with his friends, Quigley, Bolan, and Fish. Tepper has a girlfriend, Carla, whom he loves dearly and plans to propose to.

As Tepper and his friends spend much of their time playing poker together, they have all vowed to not check the winning numbers of any of the lottery tickets that they add to their total ante for poker games. Whoever wins the final five man standing poker game wins the entirety of the pot, and it is this rule that creates the premise of the rest of the film.

While on his way to Carla one night, Tepper comes across a wallet lying on the street. Upon inspecting the wallet, he is unable to discover the owner of the wallet, and decides to do what he can to identify the owner. Not long after, he finds a lottery ticket hidden in the wallet, and after checking the numbers, realises the ticket is worth $6 million.

Tepper finds himself at a loss, as the money would help set his life up with Carla, but at the same time, he does not wish to break the vow he made with his friends. He then discovers that the wallet and its contents belong to a fireman named Avery, who is also a regular poker player at their games night. Tepper decides to swap the ticket with the ticket of his own before arriving at the poker game, and realises that Avery will be joining them for the poker. The rest of the night Tepper goes through a range of emotions, such as the guilt of what he’s done, and the suspicion that Avery has figured out what he has done. His own suspicions of Avery continue to grow as Avery exhibits strange behaviour, as well as the fact that the local police are searching for a man of Avery’s description.

Despite all this, Tepper decides to play poker anyway, hoping to win the pot and the lottery ticket. By the end of the game, Tepper realises that he has the winning hand, but decides to fold, meaning that nobody ends up winning. Soon, Tepper’s friends begin to learn the truth of what has happened, and a small fight breaks out, leading to Avery being injured. Tepper then decides that the ticket rightfully belongs to Avery, and gives the ticket back to him, after which Avery leaves. Not long after, there is a knock at the door which Tepper answers, and behind the door is the real Avery, and Tepper realises that they were all fooled by the fake Avery.

Finder’s Fee Verdict

Finder’s Fee is an interesting take on the way people can be manipulated and lead on beyond the Poker table, and the surprise ending makes it worth a watch.
